This unique, hand crafted nativity is prepared using methods and techniques from the 14th - 16th Century Iznik-Ottoman Empire period. The designs are inspired by the grace, beauty, and balance of nature. Stylized flower motifs, geometrical, and symmetrical patterns are drawn and painted upon a structure which contains a very high concentration (85%-90%) of ground down quartz. A seamless overglaze is applied to give each piece of glossy finishing touch. Made by the women of the Turkish central city of Anatolia. It provides opportunities for women to learn skills in handmade crafts in order to provide income for their families and to keep the Turkish culture alive
