Product Description
The perfect gift for any occasion, whether it's housewarming, wedding, birthday, or a simple "thinking of you". Made of felted wool, the fun designs are needle felted into the trivet before the final felting step. Both useful as a trivet for the table and also the perfect thickness to use as a potholder to get items out of the oven. Food stains are easily removed by spot cleaning. They're a must have for any and all kitchens!
Every 40 minutes a young woman is abducted for marriage in Kyrgyzstan. Some studies show 1 in 5 women have been kidnapped in this manner. Add to that a challenging economic condition in the rural regions, as well as a significant rate of alcoholism, and it's a recipe for heartbreaking situations. The domestic violence figures are staggering. Women can feel they have little or no choice to get out, which in turn has led to unusually high numbers of women imprisoned for killing their spouse or being tricked into trafficking by the promise of a job abroad. Our artisans in the north eastern region of Kyrgyzstan, near Karakol, have mastered wool art. They use these skills to create amazing potholders, nativities, scarves, dolls, and slippers. Since they are paid a fair wage for their work, they bring home some much needed income, relieving some of the financial stress in the household.
