Product Description
Hand painted ceramic Shipibo 3 piece nativity set from Peru, with tallest piece approximately 4-1/4".
This nativity set is made by the artisans of the Shipibo tribe, living along the Ro Ucayali in Peru. The patterns on the garments are hand drawn in one of the ancient patterns the Shipibo tribe is known for. There is much mystery surrounding these patterns. Some believe they mimic the pathway of the Amazon River, some believe they represent the Anaconda snake, and even others believe it represents an ancient language. Many of the Shipibo tribe are currently living in severe poverty, with no access to education for their children or basic medical care. The artisans receive not only fair wages, but training to enhance their skills. In addition, 20% of their annual surplus is donated to a community outreach program that feeds some 400 children each Sunday and helps pay for school uniforms and supplies. Because each piece is hand drawn, the pattern depicted in the photo is a representation only. Every piece is unique and will vary in pattern details.
