Uttar Pradesh, India, is a region renowned for its stone carving traditions passed down through generations. Using traditional hand tools, artisans carefully carve and smooth each piece from variegated marble. Once the figure is carved, a groove is etched and a strip of recycled brass is pounded in with a chisel and hammer. The piece is then polished again for the striking contrast of natural stone and metal.
