The artistry of a batik in a triptych nativity! The three panels (Holy Family, shepherd, and three wisemen) are surrounded by hand crafted paper mache. Set on a bookshelf or table for the holidays, then simply fold up and place in it's hand made paper box to protect until next year.

About the artisan:
In Nepal, leprosy has been eradicated, but the stigma remains. Those cured, and their families, are still seen as unclean. This artisan group employs the families of the cured so they can earn a living making batik art. They begin with a plain piece of white cotton fabric, stamp the design, then use a process of dying and waxing to add the colors seen. Each color represents a step of dye and wax. At the end, the fully waxed fabric is crumpled to force breaks in the wax, then submerged in black dye for the appearance of fine line webbing over the entire piece.
