Uganda is in an unfortunate position. A full 41% of its people are living in poverty, with the largest refugee population in Africa. The country is currently hosting more than one million refugees who have sought asylum. What's even more concerning is that almost half the population is under the age of 15, making it essential to break the cycle of poverty quickly. The artisans take pieces of scrap paper, cut into strips, roll up into beads, and apply a protective finish. These beads are then make into necklaces, earrings, or bracelets, helping to provide the income that's so desperately needed.
