Product Description

Our stylish mudcloth women's wallet includes organizational spaces for cards, cash and change. An all leather body, this durable wallet has an overflap accent made from mudcloth, giving it an individuality you'll fall in love with.

Each wallet is handcrafted from durable leather and mudcloth by a wonderful group of textile artisans in Bamako, Mali, who shine at incorporating contemporary mudcloth into their designs. Artisans begin by soaking cotton cloth in a dye bath of tree leaves. Historically, the cloth is sun-dried then painted repeatedly with fermented mud, which chemically reacts with the tree leaves and leaves the cloth a rich brown even after the mud is washed off. Adding indigo or other locally grown herbs and flowers can alter the final color to various shades of blue and yellow.
