Cheerful and hopeful with a strong vintage edge, this butterfly shows off its striking floral pattern with elegance and flair. Perfect for that finishing touch to a farmhouse or transitional setting, this piece will provide visual impact to any space.
The basic frame of the insect is created using tin, which is powder coated with a black finish. The frame is reinforced using tin wire along the inner edge. Capiz is an oyster shell and the primary purpose of the oyster is as a source of food. However, the by-product, the shell, can be used for decoration. Due to it being a natural material, the natural colors of the capiz come through as tans and browns underneath the paint. The shell is then painted the bold colors you see. The entire front facing piece is carefully hand-painted keeping in mind the reflective qualities in the color of insects.
The artisans of the Philippines have been using capiz shell through the generations. It's sustainable as well as beautiful. By combining this shell with recycled materials, food based dyes and low-impact finishes, the resulting wall art is beautiful as well as environmentally friendly. With attention the artisans as well as the environment, the employees of these producer groups have access to a dignified working environment, living wages, healthcare, continuing education and quality housing.
