Product Description

Sometimes the best nativities are the ones made by the most basic resources. This quirky set is made out of corn husks! A fully sustainable resource, this is not only a great gift for nativity collectors, but also for those concerned with environment sustainability.

The women in the regions around Trujillo have a tenacity that is limitless. Many tell a similar tale, moving from village to village during their youth, as their parents were trying to support the family, children lost to disease and poor medical care. Most lost their homes and all of their possessions when Hurricane Mitch came through in 1998. They have rebuilt their mud and thatch homes, but are still doing whatever they can to find enough income to support their families and provide an education for their children. They are using soda cans, snack bags, corn husk, tuno bark, beads, fabric, and newspaper to make nativities. Each set is handcrafted and will have slight variations, giving it a unique individuality of its own.
