Ditch the plain white dishes and bring some individuality to your table setting! These hand painted ceramic dishes from Vietnam beautifully mesh practical with a touch of quirky and will soon become a favorite.
In Bat Trang, Vietnam, ceramics are a serious business. The artisans have been perfecting their ceramic craft for hundreds of years and have developed a process that takes 60 days for each piece. The clay is first added to a mold, where it sits for nearly 24 hours. This filled mold is then placed in the kiln at half heat, or 500 degrees. Once it's cooled down after firing, each piece is painted by hand, with every detail added one brush stroke at a time. This painted piece is then glazed and put back in the kiln at full heat, which is nearly 1200 degrees.
