Product Description

Hand painted San Pasqual figure from Guatemala measuring approximately 8" tall. What better gift for the foodie in your life than a figure of San Pasqual, the patron saint of the kitchen. San Pasqual was a 16th century Franciscan monk. He became known for his magnificent dishes served out of a kitchen containing only the most basic ingredients. As he cooked, he prayed and meditated, leading to the belief that he was talking to the angels, who then helped him in the kitchen. Not only did he create masterpieces for the monks, but he prepared meals for the poor with equal care. Rather than the standard broth that the other monks served when they had kitchen duty, San Pasqual would make a cabbage stew adding bread and meat so they had a solid meal. Each figure is painted one piece at a time by the artisans of Lake Atitlan, a region in which 70% are living in poverty. Colors vary. Story card included.
