Product Description

Repurposed embroidered huipil mini wristlet from Guatemala measuring 4" high x 5" wide. Wallet has zip closure with an inside zip pocket for coins and 4 sleeves for credit cards. The women of Guatemala are known for their poncho like blouses with hand embroidered patterns around the yoke of the neck, called huipiles. The huipil was introduced during the Spanish conquest, to more readily identify a woman's village of origin. Every village has a unique pattern, ranging from geometric to floral, some incorporating birds like toucans. Miguel Perez and his family repurpose these vintage huipiles, alongside new weavings, into beautiful purses and wallets. Since each huipil is hand embroidered and varies in regional origin, every wallet will be unique in pattern and color, expressing the character of the woman who once wore it.
